Program Days

Students selected to the YLRC program will be required to attend all sessions and complete various homework assignments. The tentative schedule includes (7) full day sessions beginning in August and ending in April (there is no session in December), (2) Saturday sessions, and (2) evening sessions.

ORIENTATION

ROPES COURSE

You’ll explore team dynamics and our role within a team. This day will provide a setting for participants to get to know themselves, their communities, and each other.

COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY

This day will provide you the opportunity to participate in a hands-on volunteer experience.

HISTORY DAY

This day will introduce you to the history of Augusta and the surrounding communities. You’ll ride through our historic neighborhoods and see firsthand the story behind this community. You’re guaranteed to learn something old and new about Augusta.

HUMAN RELATIONS DAY

Diversity includes much more than racial and ethnic issues. We will explore all aspects of valuing the diversity found throughout metro Augusta.

CRIMINAL JUSTICE DAY

You’ll hear all the facts and determine the verdict for yourself. You may be given the opportunity to interact with local police officers, court officials, etc., and experience for yourself what it is like to be a part of the criminal justice system.

BUSINESS, INDUSTRY, AND HEALTHCARE DAY

This session will include interaction and hands-on tours of local businesses. During the healthcare portion, you’ll gain a better understanding of the complexities of our varied medical institutions and the cooperation that exists among them and the community.  

GOVERNMENT & MEDIA DAY

During this session you will be provided insight and access to local government officials, policies, and procedures.  You will also take a look at the media and their influence on our community and public opinion.  

ARTS & CULTURE DAY

At any time of the year, for any type of taste, for any age, Augusta has the art you crave. You’ll witness the wide array of cultural and art opportunities available that impact our region and the important issues that face art organizations everyday. The stage is set for an entertaining, action-packed day.

EDUCATION DAY

You will explore higher education opportunities in our region while providing guidance and direction in choosing future education alternatives.

GRADUATION
